Greetings!

My name is Lauren Wang, and I am currently a freshman at University of Southern California (Gould) Law School. Intrigued by the intersection between education and law, much of my time has been spent exploring the underlying causes of educational inequity I encountered growing up in the Greater Houston area. In an effort to remedy the consequences of these issues, I thoroughly enjoy teaching and providing literacy resources for children through BestBridgeToHeart’s initiatives.

At school, I am committed to teaching different groups at varying stages in their learning journey. Outside of class, I work as a docent at my school’s museum and have created and led educational tours for an extensive range of audiences. Examples include local middle school teachers, elementary schoolers, and an upper-level Philosophy and Africana Studies course.

With 74% of children in the greater Houston area considered “economically disadvantaged,” a great deal of children lack resources that properly facilitate their educational development during adolescent years. Throughout my life, self-expression has always been one of my primary core values. Through BestBridgeToHeart, I aspire to enact change and teach children ways to articulate themselves through different forms of expression–whether it be through speaking, reading, or writing. Everyone deserves a chance to speak and manifest their own piece, and with our organization, I know we can construct a better livelihood for the youth of Texas one book at a time.
