Hello! My name is Eric Chen, a current junior at Stephen F. Austin High School in Sugar Land, Texas. When I first heard about Best Bridge to Heart I was immediately interested, being able to provide for the community while also helping our future generation thrive, what more did I need to join? As someone interested in humanities, reading to children, and helping them feels like a step in the right direction to better our world. Some background information about me, I enjoy learning about the different fields of science and technology which prompted me to join Science Olympiad as a competing member. In addition to that I also partake in the student council, service for humanity, the national honor society and science honor society. I also enjoy playing the cello for my orchestra which I am an officer in and at home I transpose music for the cello and saxophone. In my free time, I also play tennis as a leisure sport and used to compete in taekwondo as a black belt. Outside of extracurriculars, I really like playing volleyball, hanging out with friends, drawing, reading light novels, playing games, and messing with computer hardware.
Ever since I was a child, I knew how it felt to not be as fortunate as others, from dislocating both legs to appendicitis, I’ve had many surgeries. In the case of the children here, they are not as fortunate as others because they are low income and sometimes are not provided with the materials needed for a proper education. Although the 2 cases are not exactly the same, I can still somewhat sympathize with the children which really motivates me to do something for their education to help them have as good as a future as they can get. Coming from a family where education has always been a strong emphasis throughout our childhood, I felt it was necessary for all students from all type of backgrounds to be given the same opportunities, that includes those who are low income and not as fortunate. In our modern day and age, being giving equal opportunities is important to having future educated, law abiding members of society. Also, with the global pandemic still going on it is even more dire than before that we help these children now. Luckily with all the members in BestBridgeToHeart, I hope we can make our dreams of helping those less fortunate than us succeed a reality.
